How-to, Domains

What’s Common Between Naming a Baby and a Website?

More than you think!  Here are some tips we learned from naming our own little domain babies.

  1. You want the name to be unique. You don’t want 3 other kids at school or 5 other businesses online to be called the same.

  2. You want it to be meaningful. Well, it’s your baby. You want it to embody the values, dreams you have for them.

  3. Easy to remember and spell i.e. if someone heard the name over the phone or across the room, they should be able to spell it correctly.
(Yes, we all dislike those people that misspell our names. And a misspelled website means you lose valuable site visitors)

  4. You are not going to settle for anything. Simple & meaningful is the key here. When naming your website you want to ensure the matching domain is available.

  5. It’s a lifelong commitment. This one may be a bit of a stretch for a website. But you don’t want to change your website address after you’ve launched it, printed it on your business cards, stationery, got that awesome SEO ranking.
